Work in New Zealand - FAQ:

How long does it take to obtain a job offer?

This depends on many factors such as specific skills, the type of job, geographic limitations etc. New legislation that ensures local employers employ a kiwi before a migrant (to ensure that unemployment remains low for its own), also needs to be taken into account. Sometimes a job offer can be secured relatively quickly, but often it may take up to three months before migrants find a position that meets all requirements and satisfies the New Zealand Immigration Service so that they will issue a visa.

We strongly advise that you do your research prior to arriving in New Zealand, and that you seek the advise of experts in the various fields to ensure that you understand all the risks involved in relocating to a new country.

Can employers offer a job to anyone from overseas?

The New Zealand Immigration Service only grants work permits when employers can provide evidence that they are unable to recruit locally, unless the migrant's qualifications are listed on the Occupational Shortage Lists.
